I’ve always wanted to do a photo session with Julie and earlier this year I decided to treat myself. Watching Julie with my dogs was a treat. She has a gift of communicating with them – from the excitable/food motivated Rodrigo to our shy Zoey. And this gift led to a tremendous portfolio of images that I have been using to promote my business. Her patience is outstanding and she captured the spirit of each of my dogs and making fast friends in the process. Our session is an experience that I look forward to repeating with Julie.
For Mother’s Day, my husband gave me the best present of having a photo shoot with my beloved horse, Goldie who was turning 34. I knew we had to take pictures this year because every day is precious with Goldie because of her age. I searched for a photographer who could capture Goldie’s kind spirit and love for life. I hired Julie to fulfill this goal and she far exceeded my expectations. Julie knew where to position herself to capture Goldie at a full gallop to show she still enjoys life to the fullest. And Julie captured the most touching moments of Goldie and me that demonstrate the close bond we have. When I first saw the proofs, I welled up with tears because they were so amazing; it was very hard to choose which ones I should purchase because so many of the proofs were so beautiful. I am forever grateful to Julie for truly memorializing Goldie in the most spiritual and loving way possible.
What can be more valuable than once-in-a-lifetime photos of your family? To us, Julie Austin made a dream of many years come true. Our three pups are more than just animals – they are our family. We trusted Julie based on her excellent portfolio, her professional and detailed communication, and the number of stellar reviews that we read from families like ours. Needless to say, Julie went above and beyond and gave us the gift that we will treasure forever.
It takes tremendous skill, talent, and artistry to not only take a photo of the five of us, but to be able to capture the love and bond that we all share, and Julie did all of that and more. Julie listened attentively to our vision and worked diligently to ensure that we were 100% satisfied. Our session was a blast. Julie’s warm and welcoming demeanor allowed for all of us to feel comfortable and confident. From the initial consultation to the beautifully custom USB package, Julie was five stars all the way. We would highly recommend her services to any family and will definitely be contacting her for future photography sessions.

I first found Julie when looking on a national website that specialized in photographers who took end of life photos. I immediately fell in love with her work and was ecstatic to find out that she was local! Sadly our cocker spaniels condition worsened and we decided that was not how we wanted to remember her by so we chose to not get photos done. When we got our new senior rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniels we decided to get their photos done right away, that way nothing could happen.
I was blown away by the amazing job Julie did, she truly captured their personality. We had such a hard time picking which photos since we basically loved them all. If you are looking for a photographer for your pet I definitely suggest you invest in Julie. The other thing we loved about her was the fact that she volunteers for our favorite charity Old Dog Haven…right then and there we knew she was a good egg.
Julie makes photo sessions easy! I’ve never enjoyed having my picture taken and when Julie gets behind her camera it’s as if she’s disappeared, allowing me to ease into the session and not feel nervous. She has a special way with animals and is able to connect with them on a deeper level, allowing her to capture their essence, their mood, and their personalities in full!
I found Julie about six years ago when I wanted pictures of my dogs and am so glad I did! We’ve had five family photo sessions with her and I treasure seeing the images of my dogs over the years. Their graying muzzles are a reminder of the importance of our family photos.
In April 2003, as a newlywed and a new homeowner, I adopted a teenaged boy dog. His name was Yoda, and he was listed as a 9 month old Rottweiler mix. Yoda went everywhere with me almost every day. He went to work with me. He crossed the state several times with me. We backpacked. He kayaked on the Pacific Ocean with my husband. He helped foster several dogs as they transitioned between homes. Yoda taught me many lessons and helped me grow as a person, a wife, an employee, a friend, and eventually, as a mother.
He quickly became my canine soul mate-My Heart Dog. When we decided to add human children to our family, Yoda stepped into his new role of nanny and protector quite naturally and became my sons’ best friend too. Anywhere you found the boys, you’d surely find Yoda as well. He lived for our sons as much as we do, and he could be counted on to be next to them, helping guide them along their way. He welcomed them home at birth, and he saw them off to kindergarten, welcoming them home each day with a smile and a wagging tail.
Imagine our devastation when, in January 2015, we received the news that Yoda had heart disease and was short on time left with us. We knew he was a senior, and we knew that dogs don’t live forever, but to receive notice that the clock was now ticking was heartbreaking. I wanted…needed! …to have something to remember our Sweet Boy with. I wanted high quality photos that my sons could cherish for all of their days and remember the dog that helped shape who they grow up to be. I needed a photographer I knew I could trust to truly capture the Essence of Yoda, and everything he meant to our family before the Yoda I knew and adored became a shell of the dog of his youth. Julie was the only natural choice. We scheduled a session with our whole family-myself, my husband, both boys, Yoda and our other dog, Kailie.
Julie was very professional and I could tell she understood the bond I had with my Yoda Bear. I could tell Julie understood that Yoda was not Just A Dog, but my Soul Dog, my Heart Dog, my Once In A Lifetime Dog, and I trusted her to capture that “on film”. I knew I could expect to have the photos I would cherish. I was not disappointed when I received the files from Julie. I had a family portrait printed in a large format, and a close-up of each dog’s face printed nearly life-size for our walls. I have Julie’s photos saved on my phone and set as the background and the lock screen. Julie had truly captured Yoda’s heart and soul in the photos she took that day-his absolute joy for life and the bond he and I shared.
We said good-bye to our Sweet Boy in January 2016. It was not unexpected, given his diagnosis and age, but the day came rather suddenly. I felt fortunate that I hadn’t waited to do our photo session until it fit better into our schedule, or our finances, or any other reason we could have put it off. Now that my Boy isn’t here to greet me every morning, and all I have left are Julie’s photos on my wall, I cherish them even more. Every morning, I still wake to his smiling face and feel his presence emanating from the photos. I am confident that my children will hold the memories of their childhood dog very close well into adulthood, and will appreciate having such high quality photos to display in their homes as well. I cannot thank Julie enough for her gift and talent. Anyone can take pictures of a dog, but it takes a special photographer to capture the spirit of a Special Dog. I have many days when Julie’s photos get me through the day as I grieve deeply for my Best Friend.
My dog, Bailey, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. She had to have her leg amputated to completely remove the cancer, but she is healthier and happier than she’s ever been these days. She truly has a new lease on life and I wanted some professional photos to capture this special stage in her life. I knew that I loved Julie‘s work from photos I had seen at Natural Pet Pantry and at various vet offices, but I was even more impressed with how she interacted with Bailey. Julie understands animal behavior and knows how to work with the dogs to get the shots she wants. Bailey is very active and easily distracted, making her a nightmare for most photographers. Julie was incredibly patient with Bailey and was able to capture her perfectly. I also appreciated the fact that even though I brought my always-camera-ready French Bulldog along, Julie stayed focused on Bailey. The photo session was fun, and the photos we ended up with were exactly what I wanted. These photos were special the second I saw them, and will only become more special over time. Thank you, Julie!
Julie has been photographing my dog (and me!) for years- because I just keep coming back. There’s a reason for that. There is some indefinable quality that differentiates art from just plain ole photographs, and Julie solidly crosses that line. Art matters to me. My dog matters to me. Julie gives me both.
If ever there was a photographer that has an epitome of being able to bond with animals to get their best in photography it has to be Julie Austin. I am so fortunate to have had a session with Julie to photograph my three dogs at my home. The results are stunning. Friends cannot stop commenting on the works of art that Julie has provided to me. If all this wasn’t enough Julie supports animal rescue groups including one of my favorites Old Dog Haven. Bless you Julie, bless you! Your photographs are dog-gone beautiful!
Julie has a unique and artful style, capturing the essence of each animal she photographs. We have two cats, Truffle who is our social cat, and our rescue cat, Saké who is terrified of people. Julie is so patient and kind with animals and instantly builds a human-animal bond. Her heartfelt sincerity made Saké feel comfortable and at ease. Julie was truly able to capture the spirit of both Saké and Truffle, which show in her photographs. Thank you Julie for your beautiful work!
Doug and I were opening our wedding gifts. Corey and Dianne know us the best, outside of one another of course, and they are the most creative in our family so we knew to expect something beautiful & heartfelt. For this reason, we chose to open their gift last. It was a beautiful card with a message inside that led us to Julie’s website to schedule our session. Let me not fail to mention that Corey is a professional photographer and Dianne is a professional photo editor, so their review bears a little more weight then those of us browsing through cute photographs of puppies to select “the best” photographer. Their comments were summed up as follows:
- Julie Austin has won Best Pet Photographer for the past 3 years in a row from King 5.
- Julie has a background in graphic design and has been a pet photographer since 2004.
- Watch the videos that Julie has posted on her site. You get a real sense of her personality in the interviews. She is a rare breed in that she can relate to both animals and humans alike. The dogs are going to feed off of your energy and if everyone is relaxed and having a good time the photos are going to turn out better.
- Julie is a animal lover. Evidence = she has 5 big dogs of her own and she has experience with many animals from goats to dogs to horses.
- Analysis. Julie is a good mix of having a real way with animals and being a professional with her photography.
- Bonus, if you really need one at this point. Julie did a whole calendar for the humane society and is involved with promoting rescue dogs too. How awesome is that!!!
In summary, we had the best wedding gift you could ask for. Maya and Max are Doug’s and my only children. They mean everything to us in that you couldn’t go through either of our phones without seeing 90% of our photo library full of pictures of our furry kids. The experience was wonderful. Max (our 2 year old Golden Doodle) had a crush on Julie about 18 seconds after she walked through our door. It was awesome because she was able to capture the goofy and loving side to him that sometimes we only see (he can be our “shy one”). She caught Maya’s stunning beautiful and classic Golden Retriever smile with a twist (Maya rolls around on her back and gives you a cute upside down toothy grin). She captured some family shots of all four of us that turned out so well that our family & friends received the first homemade Christmas cards ever from us (Doug usually hates the camera). Bottom line is that we now have beautiful images of our family that we will always cherish. Julie is superb at what she does and she is one stellar lady that we are happy to know. We are happy to recommend Julie as “the best” pet photographer.
We love you Julie!
Christine, Doug, Maya and Max
Our furry family loved working with Julie. At first, I figured that a couple of the kitties would be shy but they all opened right up to her (with a few treats offered). Julie has a way of blending in with a quiet confidence that sets animals quickly at ease. She is on the floor, up above, and moving about with grace to capture the perfect perspective and the essence of your pets heart. Julie spent a couple hours getting to know our felines and truly caught the most splendid moments. I am so thankful for the photos we were able to get of our four kitties and we proudly have them hanging in our home!
Julie has helped me tremendously by capturing my foster dogs pure beauty in every picture . Every time I post a dog with her pictures, I have not only received several applications but have actually adopted the fosters to wonderful homes. I am indebted to her for all that she has done to support rescues. Julie always makes time for me which I am so grateful for. I had a black dog that I could not get a picture of and with Julie help, I posted some awesome pictures and was able to find this well deserved dog a forever home. Thank you Julie for your dedication and hard work to help find rescue dogs good homes.
Julie has a unique talent of capturing the true spirit and soul of animals. She took pictures of my dog (Marley) just before he had surgery to remove a Cancer tumor. She was fun and kind and made it all so easy – for both me and my dog! Her true love for animals comes through in person and through her photography. Marley is doing well today and I am grateful to have these very beautiful and special photos to always remind me of a very special dog.
A few years ago I had Julie photograph my stallion for pictures I could use to advertise him. The session was an absolute blast, and the pictures were better than I had even hoped for! Thanks to Julie’s pictures and the ad she so kindly put together for me, I’m getting more interest in him than I ever had. I have since had her photograph two other stallions for me, some along with various other critters, and have never been disappointed by the results. All my horses, and my dog, absolutely adore Julie (not so sure about the cat….but she doesn’t adore anyone 😉 ). I would highly recommend Julie to anyone who wants photos of their pets, she truly captures each individuals essence.
I’m so happy I chose Julie to take photos of my beloved little puppy-man. The moments she captured are precious, and those images bring tears to my eyes every time I look at them.
On top of her artistic excellence, she is professional, easy to work with, and has a keen rapport with her subjects. I swear she can look into your pet’s soul.
Julie’s photographs are wonderful, that’s easy to recognize. What you don’t see until you meet her is how wonderful she is to work with. She takes the time she needs and is able to capture more than a handsome portrait. She was able to get beautiful images of not just our pets but our relationship with them as well. We have gorgeous photos on our walls now of our wonderful dogs that will always remind us of them and how much they will always mean to us
If you’re looking for outdoor images, whether with pet or without, Julie is my top pick! She and I have done two photo sessions so far and I couldn’t be happier with the images she has taken.
